Robin Gairns
Provisional Occupational Therapist

Availability:
Tuesday to Thursday (evenings)
Robin received her Masters of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto, after earning a Bachelor of Science majoring in biology from Mount Allison University. Robin is in good standing of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and is a member of the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists.

Robin entered the Occupational Therapy profession to follow her desire to make a meaningful difference in clients’ everyday life. Robin is passionate about delivering client-centered care focusing on client goals through collaborative care plans. Robin previously worked as a research technician in an aquaculture lab and brings the same evidence-based lens to her OT practice to provide the best possible care. Robin first joined the Dream Weavers team as a volunteer and has worked as an instructor therapist with Dream Weavers, providing both one-on-one and group support.

Robin has completed training in coaching techniques with a special focus on motivational interviewing. This intervention encourages clients to find internal motivation to change or modify their thoughts or behaviour. Robin has also completed SafeTalk certification, which is a suicide alertness program. In 2019, Robin attended the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists annual conference where she presented her research work examining how the activities children do change over time and what factors influence their participation. Robin looks forward to continuing to learn and apply new skills!
Robin believes Occupational Therapy can provide a unique perspective to new and ongoing challenges. Robin works to incorporate a sense of belonging in both her groups and one-on-one sessions and is open to helping members and their families achieve whatever their goals may be, in a fun and creative way!
